Hitting the Big Time in Vegas

19 Mar 2013

We did not plan this unfortunate sign juxtaposition.

Headin' north on Las Vegas Boulevard
Well not exactly. Yes, we saw the casinos and stayed in a casino equipped hotel (they all are). We walked the new strip and gawked at the Fremont Street Experience. But we didn’t get around to throwing down a bet - we were too busy checking out the sights day and night.

Sorry Vegas – next time we’re here we promise to lose some money.

We couldn’t resist staying in the California Hotel – turned out our room was quiet and spacious. We didn’t know it was so close to the Fremont Street Experience which looked like this during the day:

Livens up quite a bit at night:

Managed to capture the noise and action in this short video.

Fremont Street Experience (click me please)

Anticipating that our foray to the strip might involve Happy Hour we took the double decker bus (front seat upstairs) down Las Vegas Boulevard and walked for enough hours to be able take in the sights before and after sunset. Here are a couple of places we enjoyed:

Norene thought this place was interesting. I didn’t understand why.

I thought this was a great place to shoot and she didn’t understand. Doesn’t everybody watch Pawn Stars?

Dinner under the stars – so “al fresco”. Except that it was inside the Miracle Mile Mall and the climate was perfect. Pretty cool effects here. Marguerites had desired effect also:

Can’t do Vegas without seeing the waters dance at the Bellagio. The show was much better than my pictures. This trip has convinced me that a new camera would be a great gift (please whisper Digital SLR in Norene’s ear). Maybe I could become famous.

After we were swallowed by the Sphinx at the Luxor I tried to capture the soaring spaces inside with limited success. But I did bag a not bad “Game of Thrones” trophy...

I’ll admit we walked enough to be tuckered out at the end of our 7 hour stroll. These last few pictures are a bit out of order if you’re paying attention (why would you?) but we wanted to share them anyway.

Darkness coming and Vegas seems to be just waking up...city probably didn’t walk all day...feet probably don’t hurt. Goodnight Vegas!

Is that Rick? Can I get his autograph?
