Journey to Mission Texas – a few Stats and Observations - and the first few days

Thursday December 5th

We arrived at Seven Oaks on Sunday December 1st on a warm sunny day (70’s) after a tiny almost dead flat driving leg of 125 miles from Alice. Other than being a bit misdirected by the GPS (about ½ a mile off) (Tom-Tom humour) it was an uneventful ending.

We are now about 1,978 miles (3,183 of those little kilometer thingies) from our starting point on October 25th. No snow, only ice is in the freezer. We’re feeling pretty blessed.

If the following picture is any indication we seem to be adjusting OK

Harvey is averaging about 11 mpg under reasonable conditions. Doesn’t include really high wind segments. Performance has been wonderful – easy handling, smooth riding and quiet. Having to fill up with stinky diesel fuel seems to be worth it. Other than the step problem and a temperamental camera Harvey has been faultless.

He was a bit of a bully - kicked a little mud in Smiley’s face on the way down…

…but both of them got a bath after a couple of days (thanks to Mr. Balde & helper) and made up.

Temperature over the last few days has been in the 80”s.
Everyone at this park has been welcoming and friendly. Lots of social events ranging from hamburger night, cards, bingo, pool, etc to exercise classes and golf (we’re adjacent to an 18 hole course). Being hungry is not an option here. Frowning is also unpopular.

After doing the usual park walks (and numerous stops for conversation) we ventured out today on the Mission Bike and Hike Trail. A 6 mile round trip on a pleasantly cloudy morning in the high 70’s. Other than being a bit humid (RH 85% anyone?) this was wonderful.

And in the beginning - there was a hoodie

Starts off following the diked waterway

Good thing they warned us before the turn - doing at least 3 mph on the straightaway

End of the line (or the beginning if you started at the beginning)

Got within about 4 feet from this little roadrunner

This is my best side

You know the drill - I have no idea

You can have dirt trails if you wish

Ibid

Roadrunner sentinel (meep meep)

Trail's end. Bye bye hoodie.

Forecast for the next week is for cooler weather which might mean more emphasis on driving around to become familiar with the area, shopping, shows, shopping, eating out, shopping, points of interest, shopping, cleaning, shopping, etc., shopping. Some of these activities are planned by Norene. You may be able to pick them off if you study the previous sentence carefully.
