Between Winterhaven California
(a little west of Yuma AZ ) and the Imperial Dam to the north lies a
fertile valley. A startling contrast to the BLM lands we camped on (see next
entry).
As soon as you head west on the main road the influence of the All American (irrigation) Canal shows everywhere. This diversion of the Colorado River starts at the Imperial Dam.
Turning south you can’t miss the tall spindly stands of date palms.
We’d heard of “date shakes” before but didn’t give them much
thought. UNTIL WE HAD ONE. Stopped at the famous Imperial Date Farm for a shake
made from medjool dates. Rich, sweet and delicious. Not a big date fan but I
found myself trying to come up a reason to pass by there again (and again).
If you’re tired of your current wardrobe – get regular doses
of these fabulous shakes. In no time at all you’ll be shopping for more liberating
clothes.
