Atchafalaya Basin Bridge

30 March 2014      How we gonna get across that great big swamp?

If you’re on I-10  you get to drive the ABB.

Wiki says this… “The Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, also known as the Louisiana Airborne Memorial Bridge,[1] is a pair of parallel bridges in the U.S. state of Louisiana between Baton Rouge and Lafayette which carries Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya Basin. With a total length of 96,095 feet (29,290 m) or 18.2 miles, it is the second-longest bridge in the US and fourteenth-longest in the world by total length.”

Hard to stop and take high quality pictures on the road here. Here are a few to give you a taste. Worth the driving effort to experience flying low over the wetlands.

On the western approach to New Orleans you cross the western edge of Lake Pontchartrain. Not it's prettiest section.

If you cross southwest Louisiana and you're not on a bridge - you must be in a boat.

Next stop is the Big Easy. We are ready for civilization again.
