7 March 2014
In case you are paying attention (what – got no hobbies?) I
got a little behind chronologically speaking (today is April 9th).
It’s not that bad – still 2014. After sifting through about 1000 pictures I
managed to get it down to about 100 favourites. Going to share them over the
next 6 or 7 entries.
Pelican alert. Seriously. Yes they have their own signs and lights. |
A bunch of the ‘hood took the Osprey Tours Harbour Tour and
Dolphin Watch trip from Pier 19 on South Padre Island. Started off with lunch (delicious
mahi-mahi) at Pier 19.
The crew ran out a drag net to pick up a few locals for us.
In addition to the puffer fish…
we were treated to a rare find – a live seahorse. Fascinating
but really hard to photograph..
This is the old bridge from the mainland to South Padre
Island (SPI) – put together on a budget
with salt water in the concrete (not compatible with steel rebar apparently).
Didn’t survive but the state of Texas
is still paying rent for it. Maybe they were more careful with the contract
wording on the new bridge.
Time to apply the brakes. RFN! |
And yes, we did see dolphins at the harbour entrance to the
Gulf (where the big waters show themselves). They dance around the boat and
seem to have a sense of timing guaranteed to thwart photographers. Well at
least photographers with slow cameras.
They'll never get a shot over here guys. |
And if you go right under the boat... |
Norene LOVES pelicans. I took a gazillion pelican shots. If
you would like to spend half a day looking at pelican photos you will be in
luck after I Photobucket them. Large birds with double chins – what’s the big
deal?
Here’s a token pelican shot at the Pier 19 fish cleaning
station.
Livin' the dream eh Harry? Love them entrails! |
Couldn’t miss posting the biggest sand castle we’ve ever
seen.
This is outside the Tourist Bureau on SPI. |
Of course we were impressed with this shark catch…
So 2004 was a leap/leap year. Didn't notice at the time. |
And this is for everyone who loves sea/harbour/beach/hotel
shots. I do.
SPI trying to look idyllic. Worked. |
Coast Guard has some great toys |
Thanks for coming by...
