Assiniboine Park



27 July 2014 I must confess to a southern Ontario attitude


We often hear about “Winterpeg” and picture the place constantly under snow and ice with brief interludes of mosquitoes and spring floods. Turns out they also enjoy enough sun and warmth to grow some nice pretty things…


Found this one overlooking the flowerbeds. Followed peacefully with promise of candy.

Next to the floral gardens is the Leo Mol collection of scuplptures. Here are a couple of samples...



He also did a few female nudes. Not included here because I have a supervisor.
This is a well cared for park with plenty of room for activities including trails running right next to the river. I am not going to bore you with shots of fields, ponds, trails and rivers. Just proving I was wrong about the place and that they must have a long enough growing season to be able to come up with the gardens pictured above.

Wait a minute – is that the roof of a big greenhouse through the trees?
