What’s all the excitement about falling water?

20 July 2014 Kakebeka Falls (near Thunder Bay)

Perhaps the likelihood that you only get to go over once. Or that damage to your canoe may go beyond scratches.
Since the builder went to so much trouble to put this together I decided to take about 500 pictures of the results. I am sparing you the majority of them because they are frankly not all that good. I know you knew.

River's been running through here for a while
We were blessed with another snow free day in the 70’s so we spent quite a while watching and listening. If you are tolerant of shaky cams click here and you’ll get to see and hear the falls. You might want to chew on a Tums first. Sit on something solid.

This is the ultimate infinity pool:

Looks pretty innocuous
Maybe we should back paddle a bit
Not surprisingly the falls are a short walk from the Provincial Park by the same name. This is one of the nicest Provincial Parks in Ontario. Sites are very large and well screened while the roads are wide and maneuvering into place is easy.

Hiking seeks to be inevitable for us. Little Falls Trail was one of the three we went on this day. Steep with inclines on broken screed (shale).  Cool little waterfall feature.

Like walking down ball bearings

Trail bottoms out at the river

Big Falls from the Little Falls Trail
With these temps in the mid 70’s we worked up a healthy hike sweat so we went to Thunder Bay to cool off. I will explain next entry.

Gratuitous butterfly shot. No it didn't take 12 shots to get this one. OK it did.
