It’s that Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Well not exactly. But it’s coming soon. Here’s the evidence all over Harvey and Smiley on October 24th.

Good enough reason for us to hit the road.

After finally getting all of our stuff (got to be 10 tons) out of the house, shoehorning the “keepers” into the storage unit and cramming every nook and cranny in Harvey we’re kinda ready to go. Might as well leave - there’s only 1 chair left in the house.
Everything is perfect except for 1 detail - we never did get a chance to take Harvey (new to us this summer) out for a trial camping weekend so we’re going to be learning on the fly. With kind invitations from friends we’ve had a chance to driveway surf in Shanty Bay (thanks to Sue and Pete) and defied the bylaw folks in Barrie for a couple of nights on the street in front of Dianne and Don’s (thanks for the power and the wonderful meals to all). Being homeless ain't so bad when you have great friends.

Sue and Pete interrupted their weekend outside cleanup for a quick goodbye picture:

Dianne and Don did the same:

Looks like we picked up a passenger:

4 days after the house closed we left good old Barrie heading south. The 400 ramp southbound is just ahead.

Harvey drove like a dream. Smooth, powerful and comfortable. An easy 100 mile trip from Barrie to our destination. All that talk about pusher diesels being nice drivers seems to be true.

We’ll be staying at the Fifty Point Conservation Area (Grimsby) until November 15th and then we’ll make a beeline south to get to the warmer south as soon as possible. Can’t happen too soon – turns out that sleeping in parkas is less romantic than we expected.

This is a lovely campground with large sites (pictures tomorrow), a nice sand beach and lots of internal roads for stretching our legs. Still a number of campers here – it’s likely most are waiting out the days until they can go south. If it wasn’t for the 183 day maximum most of us would be south by now.

So far everything on board is working except the owners. And when the 80 km winds subside we’re going back out to take some pics.
