24 July 2014 We’ve been bugged
Yesterday we pulled into Traveler’s RV Resort for a 1 week
stay. Just a few miles outside Winnipeg.
Big open sites in a relatively flat field with no open water anywhere. Light breeze
with temperatures in the upper 60’s. Seems like the perfect environment for bug
free outdoor relaxation.
Not going to happen – the little buggers are everywhere. Not
well fed. Even close to a marsh in Ontario
we had way less bugs. Winnipeg
wins the skitter contest.
26 July 2014 The Loop
We took in a bit of the city today – a simple self guided
walking tour of about 10k from the junction of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers
through downtown and back.
Didn’t bring scuba equipment so no River Walk:
Just down the stairs... |
But we did get to walk the Esplanade Riel over to St
Boniface Cathedral and the burial place of Louis Riel.
Nope - no idea what the yellow things are |
Bit of a stretch to call it red |
St Boniface Cathedral |
Needs a bit of work |
And since they wisely spray for the wee flying beasties in
the city you can go outside without a hazmat suit.
No welts or blood. Must be bug free. |
I've always felt a kindred spirit to the Scots so I made note that there was a large influx here. Probably didn't google the winter weather first.
Made it to the famous Portage
and Main intersection:
And since this was Fringe Festival week we found a plethora
of food trucks on our path. Took more than pictures.
After eating we leapt back up with renewed vigor and resumed our tour. (editor's note - the preceding sentence contains at least 2 lies)
And now for the nice buildings I didn't work into the story:
Not far from the end we found the original Hudson Bay Store.
Technically it wasn’t lost – that was us. Back on track we made our way back to
the Forks Market where we started.
After much self congratulation we picked up extra sticky
buns in case we ran into traffic problems.
Don’t understand why these long walks don’t have an impact
on my weight.
